Editorial Note: The Soca Source was founded explore innovative ways for Soca music and its artists to thrive. Over time, we have expanded our coverage to include Bouyon Music, a distinct Caribbean genre that intersects with Soca through collaborations and its prominent role in regional carnivals and festivals. While Bouyon is neither a sub-genre nor derivative of Soca, its cultural and sonic proximity warrants recognition. This article, part of a new “Bouyon” section within Soca Records, highlights Trilla-G’s Take Me As I Am: The Album and underscores our commitment to covering Caribbean music that demonstrates both impact and relevance.
Dominates in Dominica
Trilla-G released his first-ever studio album, Take Me As I Am: The Album, on October 22, 2025, just two days before Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), the island’s premier music celebration. The 13-track project is almost entirely new material, with the exception of Hennessy & Malibu and a remix of Take Me As I Am featuring V’ghn, providing listeners with a fresh collection.
Opening Weekend Performance
The results over the opening weekend were immediate. On Spotify, the album generated 25,000 new streams, with Take Me As I Am (Remix) featuring V’ghn contributing over 60% of those plays. By leveraging V’ghn’s larger audience, the collaboration expanded Trilla-G’s reach beyond Dominica, aligning with a growing international footprint.
On Apple Music Dominica, the album reached #1 on the Top 100 on October 24 and remained there through Monday, October 27. Notably, all 13 tracks entered the Top 100 on Apple Music in Dominica and has held their positions thru Monday. Alongside singles such as I Like Your Woman, 15% of the Dominica Apple Music Top 100 featured Trilla-G’s name. Over the weekend, he had more songs in the Top 100 than any other artist on the island, including Malie Donn and Prince Swanny.
Individual tracks stand out not just for their chart performance but for their creative reinterpretations. Kyone Me is a Bouyon rendition of The Beatles’ Let It Be, lifting the melody while transforming it into a distinctly Bouyon rhythm. Similarly, Blue featuring Ridge incorporates elements of Eiffel 65’s I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee), reimagining one of pop’s most recognizable hooks in a Bouyon context. These choices show Trilla-G’s ability to draw from iconic global music and translate it into his sound, offering familiar yet fresh experiences for listeners.
Initial Standout Chart Performance
Kyone Me, Prod by Maxpeaked at #6 on Sunday, leading the album in running average streams.
Blue featuring Ridge reached #4 on the Apple Music Top 100 in Dominica on Monday and, debuted at #189 on the Apple Music (Reggae) chart in Benin, some 4000 miles away, the day before; an early sign of the album’s international reach. It also stands as the project’s second most-streamed track on Spotify.
Take Me As I Am (Remix), produced by Fr3EzE & DernzMusik, and Single Again, produced by A Plus & DernzMusik, also charted on the iTunes Netherlands (Reggae) chart.
Hennessy & Malibu, produced by Fr3EzE and released in June, originally peaked at #4 on the iTunes Finland Reggae chart in July. It re-emerged and reached #1 on the same chart the day after the album’s release.
Regionally, the album reached #3 on the Apple Music Top 100 Albums in the British Virgin Islands and #7 in Anguilla, reinforcing Trilla-G’s resonance.
While the focus here is the opening results, we also see the catalyst of those results is the combination of fresh music, thoughtful collaborations, and festival-timed release amplified engagement. Listeners responded to both the quality of the tracks and the accessibility of the album during a moment of cultural attention.
Trilla-G’s debut album demonstrates that thoughtful planning, credible collaborations, strong music, and audience interest can translate into measurable success. The release did more than chart; it reshaped Dominica’s musical landscape over the weekend and established Bouyon touchpoints internationally, highlighting both the demand for Trilla-G and the genre’s growing reach.

Across these names, Ridge, Mask Man, A Plus VI, Xavvo Knockin’, Fr3EzE, and others, a familiar creative constellation takes shape. Each brings their own rhythmic signature, yet together they establish the pulse that grounds Trilla-G’s evolving sound.
Behind the boards, Dernel Green (DernzMusik), not only did he mix and master the majority of the project, he also contributed directly to its production, ensuring the final sound was as polished as it was cohesive.
That same sense of continuity extends beyond the music itself. Much of the vocal recording took place at Th3rdHouse USVI, where the team’s fingerprints are everywhere, from vocal engineering and background arrangements to visual direction. Heavily involved in the process is Th3rd, who handled much of the vocal engineering and contributed background vocals across multiple tracks, giving the performances a textured, human depth. The Th3rdHouse imprint is more like a throughline, woven into the album’s DNA. What listeners hear and what they see are guided by the same vision, consistency through collaboration.
Visually, the project mirrors that same collaborative precision. The artwork comes from Tridel Edwin (365MMP), who, beyond serving as Trilla-G’s manager, is also a co-writer on many of the tracks.
Together, DernzMusik, Th3rdHouse USVI, and 365MMP form the album’s three creative pillars, from production, engineering and visual direction, and design, for this album it appears that Trilla-G created a self-contained ecosystem where each element reinforces the others.
Congratulations to all involved in this effort.
