Machel Montano’s Pardy
Climbs to #1
For 49 days, Yung Bredda’s groove-driven anthem The Greatest Bend Over held firm at the top of Trinidad and Tobago’s Apple Music charts—an achievement few soca artists can claim. Yet with a crowded Top 10 pushing for the #1 spot, the King of Soca, Machel Montano, has now claimed the position.
On February 9, Pardy—Montano’s latest offering, produced by XplicitMevon & Badjohn Republic and co-written with Andre Jeffers of Perception Management—officially became the #1 song in Trinidad and Tobago, according to Apple Music. The track was released just three weeks earlier, on January 17, debuting at #48 before surging into the Top 10 within a day. For weeks, it hovered between the 6th and 8th spots, holding steady but not yet threatening the throne. Then, Montano got to work.
The push began in earnest at Soaka Till Sunrise on February 2, where Montano took the stage in the early morning hours. With thousands gathered at O2 Park, the song’s hook—”We work, so hard, all week—we deserve a pardy!”—became a rallying cry, echoing through the crowd as the first real wave of momentum took hold. By February 4, the song had climbed to #3. The following day, it moved to #2.
Then came a decisive stretch of performances. On February 6, Montano made a surprise appearance at Etienne Charles’ Road March Concert, and it was clear the soca crowd was feeling it. Singing, “We deserve a pardy – we deserve it, we deserve it, tell all yuh friend and them, let’s get it started,” the energy was palpable. The following night, at the MEGA Concert in Lara Stadium, Machel brought even more fire, with the crowd chanting along, “We deserve a pardy.”
On Saturday, February 8, at Fete with the Saints, he took it a step further, bringing Bridgette Wilson, Principal of Caribbean School of Dancing, onstage to help him start the Pardy, drawing the crowd even deeper into the moment. By Sunday morning, when the Apple Music charts updated, Pardy had officially claimed the top spot.
Beyond its chart success in Trinidad and Tobago, Pardy has been making international waves. The song has racked up over 120,000 Spotify streams in just three weeks and has received steady radio play in the U.S., U.K., and Jamaica. On the iTunes’ Reggae charts, it reached as high as #3 in the U.S. and secured #1 rankings in Poland, Taiwan, the Bahamas, and the U.K., among other countries.
Montano’s strategic rollout, paired with the strength of his live performances, has propelled Pardy to the front of the Carnival season. But Yung Bredda’s 49-day reign remains a defining moment—holding the top spot for seven weeks is no small feat, cementing The Greatest Bend Over as one of the most enduring Soca hits in recent memory.
With Carnival just weeks away and other major hits continuing to jockey for position on the charts, Montano, along with composers Mevon Soodeen, Kyle Phillips, Andre Jeffers, and Kasey Philips, who provided the meticulous mix and master, along with other key collaborators, has positioned Pardy as a dominant force as we enter the heart of the Trinidad Carnival season.
The soca people are ready to pardy!
